N. HOAR'S SPLENDID EFFORT. Playing for Nelson against Marlborough in a Services cricket match at Nelson, Newman Hoar, the Red Star senior and Wairarapa representative, put up excellent performances with the bat and ball. In the 'first innings of the Marlborough Services team he took 5 wickets for 38 runs in 14 overs and in the second innings 6 wickets for 47 runs in 12i overs, doing the “hat trick.” In Nelson’s first innings he scored 96, not out, and in the second innings made 10 runs.
