EKETAHUNA
COUNTY COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna County Council there were present: —Councillors J. B. Carruthers (chairman), C. T. Richardson, P. Davies, L. G. Houlbrooke, F. M. Goggm, C. Davie, J. P. Petersen, R. W. Kebbell, H. N. Kebbell, T. R. Hancock and A. J. Perry. Advice was received from the N.Z. Counties’ Association that, subject to arrangements, it had been decided to hold a conference this year. It was considered that as ho conference had been held for four years, no further delay was desirable, especially in view of the important part counties are likely to have in the work of rehabilitation. A report of the conference held- in Palmerston North recently to consider the formation of a Manawatu Catchment Board was presented to the council. The main business of the conference was to approve or otherwise of this proposal, and, after full discussion, the repreesntatives present unanimously approved the setting up of. the board. The overseer reported that approximately 150 trees have been placed along the river bank, above Redpath’s bridge. The bulldozer has been used to straighten the river, pushing the gravel up amongst the trees. The EketahunaAlfredton, Mahgaone Valley, Eketa-huna-Nireaha, Central East and Tawataia roads have been graded. A new bridge with concrete abutments and handrails has ben built on the Mangatakato Road to replace the old wooden structure, which had become unsafe for traffic. The work was carried out by the county staff.
