CARTERTON
EARTHQUAKE SHARP SHOCK LAST NIGHT. (“Times-Age” Special.) A sharp earthquake was felt in Carterton at 9.45 o’clock last night. Personal Messrs Stubbs and Bell, inspectors of the Wellington Education Board, are visiting the district and are staying at the Club Hotel. Mrs L. Aplin, of Tyne Street, is spending a holiday at Whangarei. Mrs M. Savill, of Wakelin Street, who is leaving the district, was recently the guest of honour at a farewell “neighbours party” at the home of Mrs Ron Wakelin, and presented with a lovely hanging mirror. Last Monday afternoon Mrs W. Sorenson of Garrison Street was hostess at a party ’iven for Mrs Savill. Mrs W. Sorenson handed Mrs Savill a gift from her fellow members of the Croquet Club. Church Organ Restored. After having been extensively damaged by the earthquake in June last year, the organ at St Mark’s Anglican Church," Carterton, has been restored and next Sunday (Palm Sunday) thanksgiving services will be held at LI a.m. and 7 p.m., when the organ will once more play its part in the services. Earthquake Repairs. Earthquake repairs are still being carried out and workmen are now demolishing the upper story of the P. & A. Building. REGENT THEATRE “INVITATION TO MURDER” Tonight and Friday night there will be presented two outstanding features—‘lnvitation to Murder,” a thrilling picture featuring Jeffrey Lynn and Geraldine Fitzgerald, and “Hellzapoppin” with Olsen and Johnson, Mischa. Auer and Hugh Herbert providing most of the fun.
