POSTAL SERVICES
RESTRICTIONS IN BRITAIN. WITH SOME INCREASED CHARGES. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.50 a.m.) RUGBY, April 14. When the budget debate was resumed in the House of Commons, the Postmaster-General, Captain H. F. C. Crookshank, explained alterations, restrictions and increased charges in Post Office services, which he estimated would release 5,000 women and 2,000 men. He said the minimum charges for telegrams would be one shilling instead of ninepence. Telegrams had increased during the war from just under 60.000.000 to over 70,000,000 yearly. Trunk telephone calls in the day time had gone up 60 per cent and a campaign would be undertaken to induce a more sparing use of the long-distance services.
