POPPY DAV
ANNUAL SALE TOMORROW.
Poppy Day will be held in the Wairarapa tomorrow, when a street sale and a house to house canvass will be conducted on the lines adopted in past years. Complete arrangements have been made by the Wairarapa R.S.A., in conjunction with ladies’ committees in various parts of the district, for . the sale of the poppies. The Challenge—l9ls. Take up our quarrel with the foe, To you from failing hands we throw; The Torch: be yours to hold it high, If ye break faith with us who die; We shall not sleep though poppies grow In Flanders Fields. —Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae. The Response—l 943. Fear not that ye have died for naught, The Torch ye threw to us we caught; Ten million hands will hold it high, And Freedom’s Light shall never die; We’ve learnt the lesson that ye taught — In Flanders Fields. —L. W. Lillard.
