CARTERTON

WEDDING ALEXANDER-BAMBRY. (“Times-Age” Special.) A pretty wedding took place recently in the Presbyterian Church, Carterton, when Miss Alison Lillian Bambry, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs C. J. Bambry, Carterton, was married to 2nd Lieutenant‘John McGowan Alexander, elder son of Mr and Mrs H. G. Alexander, Masterton. The Rev. W. J. Couling officiated. The bride, who entered the church escorted by her father, wore a beautiful off-white slipper satin trained gown, featuring low waistline, heart-shaped neck, long sleeves. She wore a gold locket, that had been worn by her great great grandmother and her full net veil was held in place with cream velvet orchids. A sheaf of begonias, dahlias and maidenhair fern completed her ensemble. The bridesmaids, Misses Pauline Bambry (chief), sister of the bride, and Hazel Eagle (Eketahuna) cousin of the bride, wore Grecian styled frocks of powder blue ninnon, with shoulder veils to match. Their sheafs were of buttercup shade tinted with blue flowers. They also wore gold lockets which were the gift of the bridegroom. The best man was 2nd Lieutenant Gordon Stuckey, and the groomsman. Corporal Peter Alexander, brother of the groom. During the signing of the register Mrs L. Johnston sang “The Perfect Prayer” and later at the reception she sang “I’ll Walk Beside You.” The organist was Miss Kitty Smith (W.A.A.F.), an old friend of the bride’s family. On leaving the church the bride was presented with a silver horseshoe by her small cousin, Bobbie Quinn. The church had been prettily decorated by the bride’s aunt, Mrs T. Quinn and Miss Dulcie Richards. The reception was afterwards held at the Masonic Hall where the bride’s parents, assisted by the bridegroom’s parents, received the guests. Mrs Bambry wore a blue costume and fur, with accessories and shoulder spray to tone. Mrs Alexander was attired in a navy blue frock and fur with accessories to match and a shoulder spray to tone. Mrs P. T. Edwards, the bride’s grandmother, wore black, with fur cape and a toning shoulder spray. Second Lieutenant Alexander and Mrs Alexander later left by car on their honeymoon, the latter wearing a black chalk stripe costume with black accessories and fur. She also carried a fur coat, the gift of the bridegroom. OBITUARY MR WILLIAM ERICKSON. The death occurred at Stratford on Sunday last of William Erickson at the age of 65 years. He was born in Carterton and had attended at the Clareville School. The only son of the late Mr and Mrs Charles Erickson, of Park Road, Carterton, he was in the employ of the Railway Department and was shortly to retire on superannuation. During his residence in Carterton, the late Mr Erickson took a keen interest in any movement which had for its object the good of the town. He was a member of the Totara Lodge No. 3, I United Ancient Order of Druids, and ! was a past president. The funeral will i take place at Palmerston North today. PLUNKET SOCIETY MEETING OF BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Carterton branch of the Plunket Society was held yesterday. There were present Mesdames Armstrong, Candy, Dye, i Montgomery, Robinson and Trapp, i The nurse’s report for March stated inter alia: New cases, 4; visits to homes, new cases 10, old cases 60, preschool children 30; visits to rooms, adults 122, babies 106, pre-school children 33. A letter of appreciation from the secretary of the Sir Truby and Lady King Karitane Hospital was read. It was stated that £4l 10s had been forwarded as the proceeds of a garden party held on March 5. The shop day canvass of the town had resulted in £66 8s 2d being realised, the expenses being £1 7s 6d. Personal Items.' ! Mrs Whisker, who has been an inmate of the Croydon Hospital for the past fortnight, has returned to her home. Mrs R. Bullot (nee Sylvia Baucke), Waitara, is the guest of Mr and Mrs F. Sewell, Belvedere Street, Carterton. Mr W. Spooner Senr., who has been deer hunting for the past fortnight at Mitre Peak, has returned to Carterton. i Mr and Mrs R. Tankersley have returned from a holiday spent in Hawke’s Bay. Post Office Vacated. j The Post Office staff has now vacated the Carterton Post Office and business is being carried on in the temporary Post Office at the Bandroom, Holloway Street. REGENT THEATRE “WEEKEND IN HAVANA.” 1 At the Regent Theatre tonight there will be presented an excellent programme, headed by the outstanding drama “Weekend in Havana,” featuring Alice Faye. John Payne and Carmen Miranda. A March of Time will also I be shown.
