COLLEGE PARENTS
ASSOCIATION’S ANNUAL MEETING SUCCESSFUL YEAR’S WORK. ALTERATION TO CONSTITUTION. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa College Parents’ Association which was held in Masterton last night was well attended. Mr A. Owen Jones presided. In presenting the annual report Mr Jones said that a series of dances, which were a very profitable venture, had been held. The ladies had given wonderful assistance at various college functions. A free tea had been given for the troops. The finances were in a healthy state and the sum of £3OO had been set aside in bonds towards the cost of erecting cloak rooms at the Assembly Hall. Mr Jones thanked members of the association and Mr and Mrs Gair for their assistance and co-operation. Mr Jones paid a tribute to the leadership of Mrs Towns on the ladies’ committee and to the work of Mr Towns as secretary. He ' said that' the good financial position was due to a large extent to the work of the ladies’ committee and Mr Towns. The acting-principal, Mr F. J. Gair, expressed his appreciation of the work carried out by the Parents’ Association. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr A. Owen Jones (reelected); secretary, Mr A. J. Towns (re-elected); committee, Mesdames J. F. Jaine, G. Dallas. Grey, J. A. Russell, N. H. Prior, F. Graham, S. D. Geary, J. H. Conly, F. Peterson, S. A. Mannering, Messrs S. V. Playsted, F. Graham, J. F. Jaine, W. M. Heckler, Grey, F. Peterson. C. Bennett, Downes, C. H. Spiers and F. C. Daniell; hon auditor. Mr E. R. Rogers. Although Messrs Jones and Towns had intimated that they did not wish to seek election, they were unanimously re-elected by acclamation. The constitution of the association was altered by an amendment, which was passed unanimously, which allowed the parents of pupils who had attended the former High and Technical schools, or who had left the College, to take an active part in the administrative affairs of the association. Mr S. V. Playsted, who had given notice of motion regarding the change in the constitution, said that the change was in the best interests of the College. • For past years it had not been possible to secure full meetings of parents. If the parents did not have sufficient interest in the association then it should extend the right of membership to honorary members to the parents whose children had, in the past, attended the old High and Technical schools or the College.
