MR P. G. ROSE.

The death occurred in Masterton last night of Mr P. G. Rose, who was a well known and highly respected citizen of Masterton and who had resided here for 43 years. He was born in Wellington 62 years ago, being a son of the late Mr and Mrs J. Rose. In his younger days he was a well known footballer and played with the Masterton juniors nearly 40 years ago, and later with the Red Star seniors, being an official of the club. He was a Wairarapa junior representative and was voted as a wing forward. He was also a prominent bicycle rider, winning many events in the district. He was for some years in partnership as a

builder with Mr Mason and later with Mr R. Smith. Subsequently, he set up in business for himself. He was a valued member of the old Masterton Municipal Band (popularly known as the “bottle green and golds” from the colour of their uniforms) in the days when it was numbered among the best bands in the Dominion, being very successful at band contests and containing many champion players in its ranks. His wife (nee Miss Lawton) died some years ago and he leaves no family. He was also pre-deceased by four brothers and three sisters. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the residence, 78 Renall Street, following a service at 3 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery.
