EGGS FOR CHILDREN

4 CO-OPERATION OF PLUNKET SOCIETY. SOUGHT BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The co-operation of the Plunket Society in arranging priorities for eggs required for young children was sought by? the Minister of Marketing, Mr Barclay, in a statement last evening. “The Plunket Society,” said Mr. Barclay, “has been very helpful in the distribution of oranges during the time of shortage when only limited supplies are available, and has also, in Wellington, willingly co-operated with the Internal Marketing Division in authorising, by means of chits, supplies of eggs for nursing mothers and children under five years of age. The necessity to introduce this procedure with regard to eggs does not apply generally throughout New Zealand, because it is only in Auckland and Wellington that eggs have been seriously short, and in some instances local branches of the society have found that staff difficulties make it impracticable for them to handle the extra work. Now, however, that shortages are occurring . in other centres, the Division will be very glad to receive the further co-op-eration and help of the Plunket Society in arranging priorities for eggs, and oranges when they are available, during time of insufficiency for normal civil needs.” MASTERTON POSITION. SOME INQUIRIES MADE BY MOTHERS. During the past two weeks, said Mrs J. Caselberg, president of the Masterton branch of the Plunket. Society, there had been some inquiries from mothers for supplies of eggs for children but no advice had been received from headquarters regarding the adoption of any distribution scheme by the society locally. Steps would be taken to communicate with headquarters to . ascertain the position.
