SCHOOL BUILDINGS

REPAIRING EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE. WORK IN MASTERTON DISTRICT . The work of strengthening the Te Ore Ore School, which was damaged in the earthquake last year, is now proceeding. This building, a concrete one, has not been used since the earthquake, the children having been accommodated meantime in the Masterton West Side School. Piers are being placed around the building to effectively strengthen it. Somewhat similar work is being carried out to the brick portion of Wairarapa College, where a large number of piers are being built into the structure. Tenders are also being called for alterations to the brick portion of the Masterton Central School, the old district high school building which was opened by Mr. Richard Seddon when he was Prime Minister of New Zealand. In this case the roof is to be altered and strengthened and a concrete band placed round the building.
