Mr C. E. Robbie, of Tiraumea, is a patient in the Masterton Hospital. The Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, Prime Minister, left Wellington for Auckland on Saturday afternoon. He will return to Wellington on Wednesday. Mrs Harvey McKenzie, Masterton, has returned from a visit to Eketahuna, where she was the guset of Mrs W. Moss. Mrs. W. A. Todd, Lansdowne, who has been staying with her daughter, Mrs. Gorringe, Mangaweka, has returned to Masterton. Miss I. McCaul, who has been spending a few days with Mrs. E. I. Dodds, Pownall Street, Masterton, has returned to Wellington. Mr and Mrs. J. M. Aikman announce the engagement of their only daughter, Janet Frances, to Thomas, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Burns, Dixon Street, Masterton. A London message reports the death of Colonel Gilbert Claud Hamilton, C.M.G., D. 5.0., who was military secretary to Lord Islington, Governor of New Zealand in 1910 and 1911, and was employed with the New Zealand Military Forces from 1911 to 1913. The engagement is announced of Fay, only daughter of L.A.C. Youngquest, R.N.Z.A.F., and Mrs. E. Youngquest, Victoria Street, Masterton, to Sergt. Ernest Maynard Scott, 2nd N.Z. E.F. overseas, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. -Scott, Upper Plain, Masterton. There was a large and happy gathering- at the Savage Club Rooms, Masterton, on Saturday night when Miss June Miller was tendered a “gift evening” in honour of her approaching marriage. Music for the dancing was provided by Mr J. West, and Private (First Class) H. Shekard was M.C. Supper was served and the guest of honour opened the parcels. At the annual conference of the New Zealand United Fire Brigade Association held in Wellington the following officers were elected: President, Secretary S. Hague (Hamilton); vice-presi-dents, Superintendents L. T. Ross (Hokitika) and A. Stewart (Tauranga); treasurer, Secretary C. A. Osborne (Onehunga); secretary, Captain T. J. Watts; auditor, Mr. D. F. Smith.' Miss A. Bradbury, of Masterton, who is leaving tomorrow to reside in Wellington, was entertained at afternoon tea at Messrs Hugo and Shearer, Ltd., on a recent, afternoon by members of the Catholic Sewing Guild and the St Vincent de Paul Society Ladies’ Auxiliary. In appreciation of the services rendered to both associations, Miss Bradbury was handed a small gift, with the good wishes of those present for her happiness and success in the future. Miss Bradbury returned thanks.
