SEAGOING DOCKS

Seagoing “battleship drydocks” unlike anything previously seen are almost ready to go out with the American Fleet/ stated. Admiral Morrel, the Navy’s engineering chief. The new dock can be altered for self-propulsion. They are designed in sections like ships and will be towed at a speed of 10 knots. The sidewalls can be floated up and the sections joined together in case of emergency. They are able to carry out repairs near a scene of bajtle. Smaller versions have been built for cruisers and des- ■ troyers. The Navy’s construction programme includes 183 such drydocks costing 511 million dollars.
