ST. ANDREW SOCIETY

SEASON OPENED. < POPULAR GATHERING ON SATURDAY NIGHT. ' The Masterton Saint Andrew Society opened its season last Saturday evening with one of its popular gatherings. There was a good attendance of members and their guests who thoroughly enjoyed the programme of Scottish and old-time dances. Some Allied servicemen were present as guests and judging by the way .in which they entered into the dancing, they appreciated a change from the type to which they have been accustomed. During the evening Mrs Robert Miller entertained the gathering with two recitations which were greatly appreciated. These were “The Pride of Mrs McNamee” and “Imphm.” Miss D. Jamieson sang “Angus McDonald” and My ain wee Hoose” to the enjoyment of her Scottish audience. Miss Betty Jones gave a spirited exhibition of solo dancing in the Irish Jig and Sailors Hornpipe. The Chief, Mr H. Mackenzie Douglas, asked members who wished the dance practices revived, and who were prepared to a ttend, to give their names to the secretary as soon as possible. If this opening gathering can be taken as any indication the society should have a highly successful season.
