CARTERTON
PLUNKET SOCIETY , SUCCESSFUL SHOP DAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The committee of the Carterton Plunket Society held a very successful shop day yesterday in Mrs Stubb’s shop, which had been lent for the occasion. A copper trail produced a substantial sum of money. The takings, including donations and the proceeds from a judging competition for a dinner, amounted to £66 8s 2d. The dinner was won by Mrs J. L. Harris. 1 Dance at State Theatre. The - Home and School Association will hold a dance in the State Theatre tonight. The proceeds will go towards the district high school recreation fund. Patriotic Dance at Belvedere. The Belvedere schooroom was well filled last evening when a most enjoyable dance was held in aid of the Patriotic Funds. The music was supplied by Mrs Rogers, of Dalefield, extras being contributed by Mrs W. Knowles and Miss B. James. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs Geo. Couper and Mr H. Sage. The ( ladies of the district provided supper. Personal. Pte. George Maisey, of Chester Road, Clareville, will be entertained by the settlers on Wednesday evening at the Social Hall, Clareville. Harvest Thanksgiving. On Sunday a harvest thanksgiving service will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Carterton. Gifts of produce for the orphanage may be left in the church today. REGENT THEATRE “SMILIN’ THROUGH.” The brilliant musical comedy, “Smilin’ Through,” will head tonight’s programme.
