MERCHANT SHIPPING
GAIN OF OVER 2,000,000..T0 NS. DURING LAST EIGHT MONTHS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. March 30. The First Lord of the Admiralty, Mr. Alexander, said today that in the last eight months the production of new merchant shipping tonnage by the Allies had exceeded losses by a good deal more than 2,000.000 tons. In the next few months our fast escort vessels, built on both sides of the Atlantic, would rapidly increase. Mr. Alexander paid a tribute to the British submarine commanders and crews and the personnel of the minesweepers and coastal forces.
