EKETAHUNA

PATRIOTIC SOCIETY SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Eketahuna Patriotic Society entertained as guests of honour in the Odd Fellows’ Hall on Saturday evening Privates F. West, C. Hauseman, J. Tuckett, M. Fredericksen, H. Steer, H. Leslie and L. Burch. The music for dancing was supplied by Miss M. Smith (piano), Mr A. Rowden (bass violin), and Messrs B. Thompson and K. Marenzi (saxaphone). The hall was decorated with, miniature flags of the British Empire and Allied Nations. There were several Marines present. The lucky spot dance was won by Mrs H. Rogers and Mr H. E. Greathead, and the excuse me waltz by Miss June McAnulty and Mr R. Capes. Mr W. Olsen (Mayor) welcomed the guests and wished them good luck. He presented each with a wallet on behalf of the citizens of Eketahuna. Miss M. Anderson, president of the Borough Ladies’ Soldiers’ Comforts Committee, presented the guests with a parcel of knitted comforts. The wives and mothers of the soldiers were given Victorian posies of miniature hydrangeas, carnations and maidenhair fern in various colours. These were donated by Miss A. Anderson. The Mayoress, Mrs W. Olsen, handed cigarettes to the guests and all visiting service men. The supper was served by the Borough Ladies’ Soldiers’ Comforts Committee. , Personal Items. Mr M. Priest, chemist, is away on holiday. Mr and Mrs Hauseman are the guests of Mr and Mrs R. Payne, Alfredton Road. Mrs G. Jesson is a visitor to Eketahuna. Mrs A. E. Brittain, Central Road, who has been the guest of the Misses Buchanan, Hawera, has returned home. Miss Nancy Greathead, Wellington, is the guest of her father, Mr H. E. Greathead, Alfredton Road.
