SWIMMING BATHS CLOSED FOR SEASON. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Carterton Municipal Swimming Baths have been closed for the season, and the baths have been emptied l by the caretaker, Mr J. McKenzie, in preparation for cleaning away the silt that has accumulated. The caretaker was busy yesterday burning the dry grass on the roadside adjacent to the baths, thereby eliminating any danger from fire to the fences and sheds. The headmaster of the Carterton District High School, Mr W. Martin, reports that 250 pupils regularly attended the baths during the season. Sixty learned to swim and 102 gained the New Zealand Swimming Association’s certificates. Sixteen pupils in the primary department swam distances of half a mile and over. General allround improvement in swimming was observed and the school had to thank the Borough Council and the caretaker for courtesies extended and assistance given during the season. The caretaker, Mr McKenzie, reports that 5000 school children attended the baths during the season, as well as the Dalefield school children. Personal Items. The Deputy Mayor, Mr E.
