CRIPPLED CHILDREN

4 WAIRARAPA BRANCH ACTIVITIES. ANONYMOUS DONOR GIVES SUBSTANTIAL SUM. The executive of the Wairarapa branch of the Crippled Children’s/ Society met in Masterton yesterday. The chairman, Mr. E. M. Hodder, presided. A case was transferred to the Wairarapa from Auckland and five additional cases were reported. The Wairarapa South County Council forwarded a donation of £5, which was gatefully acknowledged. An anonymous Wairarapa donor, it was reported, had presented a substantial sum to the New Zealand Society and had expressed the wish that a proportion should be allocated to the Wairarapa branch. It was anticipated that the share of income receivable by the local branch would be about £6O per annum. Accounts totalling £33 16s 8d were passed. The financial statement showed that the expenditure this year was about £290 and that there was a small surplus of about £2O of income in excess of expenditure. The full accounts for the year would be reviewed at the next meeting of the executive. The Welfare Officer’s report stated, inter alia, that splints and boots had been obtained for two children during the month and that two parents had been assisted in travelling expenses for an examination of their children by specialists in Wellington. Arrangements were completed for major operations for two more children and an operation conducted during March had been highly successful. Three children, for whom positions had been found, were reported to be doing excellent work. It was decided to make further inquiries towards assisting new cases just reported . Mrs. Kilgour (Welfare Officer) reported on her recent visit to Wellington, and Mr. Hodder on his interview with Mr. F. Campbell, Wellington, in regard to important proposals affecting the future activities of the society.
