Y.M.C.A. ACTIVITIES

» ... — EXCELLENT YEAR’S WORK RECORDED GREAT HELP BY LADIES’ AUXILIARY. ASSOCIATION’S ANNUAL MEETING. A splendid year of service was recorded at the annual meeting of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. held last night. The meeting was well attended and it was obvious that those present were well satisfied with the stewardship of the board of directors. Mr E. M. Hodder (chairman) presided. The meeting opened and closed with prayer, led by the general secretary, Mr C. W. Gaze. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. Mr Hodder paid a tribute to the generosity of the organisations and bodies who were assisting the work of the Y.M.C.A. It was apparent that they realised the importance of the work clone. Although the Y.M.C.A. here was not out to blow its own trumpet solid work had been accomplished. Mr Hodder referred in glowing terms to the work of the ladies who assisted in the work. Mr C. J. Carle appealed for an increased membership of the Optimists’ Club in view of the depleted ranks due to members serving in the armed forces, and paid a tribute to the good work carried out by the general secretary, Mr Gaze. The Ladies’ Auxiliary donated £lOO to the board and submitted a report which stated that the past year was the busiest one in the history of the organisation. Mr Hodder described the report as revealing a wonderful effort. Reference to the fact that the auxiliary’s popular secretary, Mrs C. Pickering, was in hospital was. made by Mr Hodder. Mr Hodder said that Mrs Pickering was a wonderful worker and she would have the sincere wishes of all who knew her for a speedy recovery. As an appreciation of her services a vote of thanks was carried by acclamation. The following were appointed to the board of directors for the ensuing year: Messrs J. 'Y. Douglas, E. J. Esler, E. M. Hodder, W. L. Hunter, H. R. Keltie, J. A. Kennedy, D. Lyttle, L. B. Maunsell, T. A. Russell, G. Sutherland, A. C. Tatten, J. W. T. Jones, W. S. Flaws and the Rev. H. Taepa.
