RAIDS BY DAY
ON ENEMY-OCCUPIED BELGIUM CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE BY R.A.F. AXIS MINESWEEPER SUNK IN DOVER STRAITS. . LONDON, March 26. A transformer station in Normandy was bombed and caught fire and lock gates at Vistreham, in Belgium, received a direct hit in daylight raids by the R.A.F. today. A Belgian pilot shot down a German plane not far from his home. Last night a Royal Naval plane in the Straits of Dover attacked four enemy minesweepers. It dived hundreds of feet to drop its bombs on the central ship and sank her. There were no enemy attacks over this country today or last night. RECORD TOLL TAKEN OF GERMAN RAIDERS. EIGHT PLANES OUT OF 25 SHOT DOWN. LONDON, March 26. It is now known that in Wednesday night’s air raid, when 25 scattered planes 'flew over; the lowlands of Scotland and Northern England, eight enemy aircraft were destroyed. This is almost a third of the force engaged and is the highest proportion 'of raiders even destroyed in attacks on Britain.
