GALA AT SOLWAY

IN AID OF PATRIOTIC FUND ’ APPEAL.

BRIGHT & VARIED PROGRAMME.

Gloriously fine weather favoured the gala day held at the Solway Showgrounds this afternoon in aid of the Provincial Patriotic Fund appeal. There was a large and representative attendance. The varied programme presented included band music by a Marine Corps band, a Maori welcome, hakas, and action songs by a party of natives. Teams from the Wairarapa Interhouse Association gave a splendid drill and marching display and the local squadron of, the Independent Mounted Rifles were seen in mounted drill and wrestling displays. An exhibition of jumping was given by a horse called , “Scout” and sheep dog working, etc., was demonstrated.
