FRENCH PATRIOTS
majority holding out IN HAUTE SAVOIE. WAR STORE IN LYONS BOMBED AND DESTROYED. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) y LONDON, March 24. _ Zurich reports that a building in Lyons, in which the Germans housed war materials awaiting dispatch, was completely destroyed by a time-bomb. Only a small minority of the French patriots who fled to the mountains in the Haute Savoie have surrendered, and the majority are still holding out. Many are reported to have reached the foothills by lorry, which suggests that various French political groups are supporting the movement. Some young Frenchmen are deliberately injuring themselves in order to going to Germany as labour conscripts. One cut off several of his fingers, and another threw himself from the roof of a house, breaking an ankle.
The Delegate of the French National Committee in New Zealand has received the following information: M. Albert Guigui, secretary of the General Confederation of Labour in France (nowadays suppressed by the Vichy Government), has arrived in London from France. He has placed himself i under General de Gaulle’s authority. Before the war, M. Guigui was secretary of the Trades Union in the Paris area, which has more than 1,000,000 members. M. Guigui brings to General de Gaulle the adherence of the French working class.
