GREYTOWN
FARMERS’ UNION WOMEN’S DIVISION MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon, when Mrs Beu presided over a fair attendanc of members. Several donations were received including 5s from Mesdames Hood and Kearney and 10s from an anonymous donor. It was reported that division members had the arrangements well in hand for the luncheon to be given to R.S.A. men and their wives. The roll call resulted: Mrs Dickens 1, Mrs Bensemen 2. Other competitions resulted:—Scones and pikelets: Mrs Hutchings, 1 and 2. Pikelets: Mrs O’Neale, 1; Mrs Bensemen, 2. The hostesses were Mesdames H. McPhee, J. Kiernan, D. Ingley and W. J. Knell. Mrs Beu (president) intimated that she desired to be relieved of her position. Citizens’ Committee, A special meeting of the Greytown Citizens’ Committee was held last night. Mr A. W. Horton presided. In the absence of the secretary, Mr J. Kiernan acted as secretary. The chairman explained the scheme to hold a special sale in Masterton as outlined by Mr J. A. Betts. Antiques were specially asked for, but all kinds of goods would be acceptable. Promises had already been received including three horses. It was decided to send a circular appeal throughout the district requesting contributions. It was decided that live stock be sent to Masterton or as directed by Mr Betts. All other goods are to be left at the Red Cross Society’s depot. It was decided to hold a euchre party and dance on Friday. . Mrs T. N. Smallwood was added to the committee. The Women’s Division, of the Farmers’ Union were granted the use of the crockery for Anzac Day. On the motion of Mrs Johnson a vote of thanks was passed to the men collectors, who had raised over £6OO. Bowling. Kilgour and Shearer, of the Masterton Park Club, played a match for the Grady Medals, but were defeated by the Greytown pair, McLeod and Higgison. H. Rolls, of Featherston, has put in a challenge and this game wifi take place this afternoon. In the champion singles, N. S. McLeod beat H. Carter in the semi-final. The fours games will be completed on Saturday. The progressive pairs will be completed at the weekend, and the proceeds are to be given to the All Purposes Patriotic Appeal. Personal Items. Mr J. Robb is at present on a holiday visit to Wellington. Mrs R. Downes, of Days Bay, is visiting hex’ sister, Mrs J. Lyford. Boy Scouts. There was a good attendance at the Boy Scouts’ parade on Monday night. It was stated that a number of Scouts went out on Sunday and gathered briar berries for the Plunket Society. It was reported that B. Garrity had passed his second class examination and C. Ross and K. Alexander had passed their tenderfoot examination. Patriotic Dance. The Greytown Citizens’ Patriotic dance committee will hold an extra dance and euchre party on Friday night in the Town Hall when the
guests will be Gunners T. J. O’Brien, A. Patterson, F. McCarty and R. Farmer. TOWN HALL “AFFECTIONATELY YOURS.” The gay comedy, “Affectionately Yours,” starring Merle Oberon and Dennis Morgan, and the brilliant, drama, “Singapore Woman,” featuring Brenda Marshall and Virginia Field, will be shown tonight.
