Barnes (Masterton); Primary School championship, Reynolds (Masterton). The trophies will be presented at a dance to be held in the State Theatre on Wednesday, March 31. S.M. COURT — ■ I MONTHLY SITTING. Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., presided over the monthly sitting of the Carterton Magistrate’s Court yesterday. S. C. Resticaux was charged that on December 18, 1942, at Wellington, he purchased oil fuel under a consumer’s licence, and used it otherwise than for the purpose set out in the application. Accused pleaded not guilty and was convicted and discharged. Lizzie Fisher proceeded against A. J. Regan for possession of a house in Carterton. The magistrate ordered possession to be given up by defendant at the end of the month. The magistrate adjourned for a month the case in which Robert Bassett claimed from J. Goodin the sum of £l3 17s for rent not paid in connection with a house formerly occupied by defendant in Brooklyn Road, Carterton. l In the case, A. Humphries v. A. E. Hack, a claim for £349 15s 6d, arising out of an accident on July 11 last year, in which plaintiff sustained injuries as a result of being knocked over by defendant’s milk van, lengthy evidence was taken. The magistrate held the case over for legal argument and his decision will be given later. F. J. Abbott claimed from N. S. Cadwallader the sum of £34 19s, in connection with share milking. After lengthy evidence had been taken the case was adjourned sine die. Dance on Saturday Night. A dance will be held in the State Theatre on Saturday night in aid of the Maori patriotic war effort. The music will be provided by the combined orchestras of Messrs T. Udy and F. Pool. ( Personal. The Rev. and Mrs J. A. Daglish, left Carterton today en route to Pukekohe. Mr Daglish will take charge of the Methodist Circuit. His successor, the Rev. R. Grice, will arrive in Carterton early in April. Farewell to the Rev. J. A. Daglish. The Methodist Sunday School room was filled last evening by parishioners of the church and representatives of kindred denominations when a farewell gathering was tendered to the Rev. and Mrs J. A. Daglish, Mr Daglish having been transferred to Pukekohe. A concert programme was greatly enjoyed, items being given by Miss B. Ordish, Mesdames W. Tucker, A. Kay, J. A. Daglish, the Rev. Daglish, and Mr and Mrs Kay. Eulogistic references to the guest of the evening were made by the Revs. W. J. Couling, W. F. Stent, H. White, Knowles Smith and Hayman, Messrs D. T. King and W., Vaughan. Mr H. E. Ordish, on behalf of members of the church, presented Mr Daglish with a well-filled envelope; Mrs W. Wadham, on behalf of the Croquet Club, presented Mrs Daglish with a basket of pears and grapes; Mrs A. F. Peters presented a shoulder spray to Mrs Daglish, and Miss Rita Jones, on behalf of the Sunday School, handed Master J. Daglish a beautiful book as a parting gift. The Rev. J. A, Daglish suitably replied. Supper was provided. REGENT THEATRE “HOLD THAT GHOST.” I The outstanding comedy, “Hold That Ghost,” will be shown tonight. It is superior even to “In the Navy” and “Buck Privates.’ Lou Costello and Bud Abbott have the leading roles.
