EKETAHUNA
ST. PATRICK'S CONCERT AN EXCELLENT PROGRAMME. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the St. Patrick’s concert in Eketahuna, there was a large and appreciative audience. After playing the National Anthem, the Eketahuna Orchestra (Miss M. Smith, Messrs Bouzaid, Marenzi, Thompson and Rowden) opened the programme with wellchosen Irish airs, played with their characteristic ability. Mr P. Bouzaid rendered violin solos, Mr Thompson piano-accordeon solos, and Messrs Marenzi and Rowden, saxophone duets. Miss M. Wilson (contralto) sang a bracket of three songs, which found much favour with the audience. Mrs Hart accompanied her on the piano. To the piping of Mr R. Burns, Misses Joan Brabner, Barbara Burgess and V. Davey performed the Irish jig. Miss P. Goggin gave elocutionary items of a high artistic standard. Miss M. Little, a young singer, proved a popular' artist. Miss B. Mabey, in two recitations, gave skilful and gifted renderings. The singers from Wellington, Miss Mollie Atkinson, and MN Ken Macaulay, of 2YA, were warmly welcomed. Miss Atkinson’s stage manner, her personality and beautiful soprano voice, were a delight to the audience, which was very generously treated with encore numbers. Mr Macaulay’s rich baritone voice in even and flowing tones was most impressive. His repertoire of Irish songs was of fascinating interest. Mrs D. Hart proved a very efficient accompaniste to the singers. The Rev. Father Sweeney paid appreciative tribute to all those who had worked for the concert, the committee who had made the preparations, the I performers and the audience. The audience then joined in the singing of ‘‘God Save Ireland” and “God Defend New Zealand.” Supper was served to the performers by the Catholic Ladies’ Committee.
