DISTEMPER IN DOGS
STILL FAIRLY PREVALENT IN WAIRARAPA. Distemper is still fairly prevalent among dogs in the Wairarapa and now that effective and approved preventative treatment by qualified veterinary surgeons is available owners should make a point of immunising their dogs from the ravages of the disease. Dogs, it is stated, should be. vaccinated before they are twelve months old, as the most susceptible age for taking the disease is from 12 to 18 months. Dogs which have suffered from the disease are thereafter naturally immune from further attacks and animals which have reached the age of four years without contracting the disease are unlikely to do so. Much has been accomplished in the past by dog trial associations in checking the disease.
