SHORTAGE OF FOOD
REPORTED IN ITALY. TREATMENT OF WAR PRISONERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, March 22. x The British exchange prisoners released at Mersih were unanimous that the Italians were short of food and war weary, but that, considering the shortages and other difficulties, they tried to treat prisoners well. The “Daily Mail’s” correspondent at Mersin, reporting this added that the prisoners said the black spot was the transit camp at Bari, where 2000 men, half-starved, were huddled four in four-posted beds. The sick were dying for want of attention and equipment. Swiss Red Cross delegates are investigating conditions.
