Mrs J. V. Gordon, Pownall Street, Masterton, is spending a few days in Wellington. Mrs B. R. Bunny, Cole Street, Masterton, has returned from a visit to Paekakariki. Mrs J. C. Hazeldine, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs H. C. Robinson, Tararua Street, Masterton, has returned to Hamilton. The engagement is announced of Kathleen, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Wallis, of Tiraumea, to Bruce Eric Sturgess, of. Hastings. The many friends in Masterton of Dvr. E. L. Grantham will be pleased to learn that his parents have received word from overseas that he is fit and well. The engagement is announced of Patricia, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Hanley, Masterton, to Robert Everett, eldest son of Mr and Mrs W. E. McMahon, Murray Hill, New Jersey, U.S.A. Mr and Mrs B. Savage, Pownall Street, Masterton, announce the engagement of their daughter, Beatrice Patricia, to Sgt. William Gordon Stevenson, second son of Mr and Mrs G. Stevenson, Wrigley Street, Masterton. Mrs C. E. Beeby, 8.A., of Wellington, is visiting Masterton. She is the speaker at the annual meeting of the Masterton Free Kindergarten Association tonight. Mrs Beeby is the guest of Mrs C. J. Williams, Masters Crescent. , Visitors to Masterton at present are Mr J. R. Oakley and his sister, Miss Oakley, of Gisborne. Their father was manager of the Bank of New Zealand in Masterton over 60 years ago, he being succeeded by the late Mr J. C. Boddington. Mr Oakley was born in Marton and Miss Oakley in Masterton. They will leave tomorrow on their return home. Mrs Charles Udy, of Hukanui. who died in a private hospital in Pahiatua', was born at Woodside in 1870, her father being the late Mr Alexander Gallon, who, with his wife, arrived in New Zealand during the early ’sixties and settled in Matarawa. She was married to Mr Charles Udy in 1890 anct is survived by him. There ■ are six children, two girls and four boys, all married.
