DUROVO JUNCTION

TAKEN BY RED ARMY AFTER FEROCIOUS STRUGGLE. STRONG STAND SOUTH-EAST OF KHARKOV. LONDON, March 22. The important railway junction of Durovo, 60 miles east of Smolensk and on the main line from Viazma, has been captured by the Red Army. Durovo is also the junction of an important branch line north of Smolensk. The Russian success, came after a ferocious struggle. The Germans have launched one counter-attack after another to retrieve the situation, but each one has failed. South-east of Kharkov, the Russians are putting up what one correspondent called one of their most magnificent defensive battles of the war. In spite of repeated German attacks, no deep impression has been made on the Russian positions. The situation, however, remains critical.
