Armstrong, Mrs Berrill. Sale of paper, £2 16s. P. & A. SOCIETY QUESTION OF HOLDING SHOW. ("Times-Age” Special.) Mr C. L. Reynolds presided over a meeting of the general committee of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society, held in the Society’s office, Carterton, on Saturday. Votes of / condolence were passed with the relatives of the late Messrs F. Wadham and J. H. McNiven. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £230 7s 3d. Several letters were received from members of the society serving with the armed forces overseas, extending good wishes to the society and expressing thanks for parcels. The question of holding a show this year was discussed. The general opinion being that the committee should make preparations for holding a show of some kind. The matter will be considered at the annual meeting. The secretary reported that probably a start would be made on Wednesday with the repairs to the society’s building. It was resolved to write to the Minister through the member of the district, Mr Ben Roberts, asking for assistance in connection with the damage to the building, and that Messrs Smart and Brown attend to the matter. BOWLING RINKS COMPETITION. Six rinks occupied the greens on Saturday. Afternoon tea was supervised by Mrs F. L. Barr, who was accorded a vote of thanks. The games resulted as follows: —Kilmister, W. Hart, W. Whyte, Hughan (s) beat Udy, Beaven, Tucker, Barber (s), 21/19; W. Hall, Colson, Newbould, Harris (s) beat E. H. Smith, Hill, Pankhurst, Riggs (s), 23/21; Clarke, Bain, G. W. Hart, Sorensen (s) beat Smith, Hawker, C. J. DeLacey (s), 20/15; L. DeLacey, Spooner, McCarty (s) drew with Adams, Foss, Edwards (s), 23/23; Booth, Daysh, Martin (s) beat Rayner, Curtis, Johnston (s), 21/15. At the weekend a rink of Palmerston North bowlers visited Carterton and ■ had two most enjoyable games. They were hospitably entertained. They won the game played in the morning, ' but were defeated in the afternoon. ' The results were as follow: —Morning game: Ashcroff, Lovett, Voitre, Christensen (s) beat Foss, McCarty, Daysh Curtis (s), 21/12. Afternoon game: G. W. Hart, C. J. DeLacey, Daysh, Curtis 21; Palmerston North 17. Two rinks from the Island Bay Ladies’ Bowling Club paid a visit to Carterton over the weekend and were defeated by the Carterton lady bowlers. The visitors were entertained to morning and afternoon tea. > Patriotic Dance. The dance held in the State Theatre on Saturday evenihg by the Maori Patriotic Committee was well attended and a most enjoyable time was spent. Music was supplied by the combined orchestras of Messrs T. Udy and F. Poole. Personal Items. At Saturday’s meeting of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society it was reported that Miss Molly Smart, who is in the Middle East and who had been seriously ill, had made a good recovery from her illness and was staying with her unit. REGENT THEATRE “PIMPERNEL SMITH.” “Pimpernel Smith,” an excellent war story, will be finally shown tonight. Leslie Howard and Francis Sullivan portray the chief characters.
