Andrew, “Awanui,” Whareama, who had been visiting her mother, Mrs H. B. Dyer, Tauranga, has returned home. Mrs Winston Daniell and Mrs Perrott, Hamilton, are the guests of Mrs F. C. Daniell, Essex Street, Masterton. Dr. and Mrs Archer Hosking, Church Street, Masterton, are visiting their daughter, Mrs W. K. Logan, Rawene, North Auckland. It was officially announced yesterday that Temporary Sub-Lieutenant E. J. Gilberd, R.N.Z.N.V.R., Palmerston North, had been seriously injured in an aircraft accident. Official advice has been received that Sergeant Pilot John Henry Lawson, son of Mr and Mrs H. Lawson, of Featherston, was killed in action on Monday last. The funeral of Sergeant Lawson, who was 20 years of age, took place at Aylesbury, England, yesterday. The engagement is announced of Joan Leonie, second daughter of Mr and Mrs J. H. Riley, Short Street, Masterton, to Frederick von Hofen, U.S.M.C., second son of Mr and Mrs J. E. Hatcher, East Baltimore Boulevard, Fort Worth, Texas. The Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, Prime Minister, will leave Wellington for Rotorua by the Limited express on Monday night. Mr Fraser, who also has engagements in Ngaruawahia and Auckland, will return to Wellington on Monday week.
