SOVIET OFFICIAL REPORT ENEMY LOSSES IN MEN & MATERIAL. CONQUEST OF FORTIFIED LOCALITIES. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, March 17. Tonight’s Soviet communique says: “Our troops fought in the same directions'as before.” A supplement adds: “The Soviet Air Force on Tuesday destroyed or damaged more than 100 lorries carrying troops and supplies, silenced 22 artillery and mortar batteries and blew up an ammunition dump. “Russian troops on the central front repelled counter-attacks and continued to develop the offensive, occupying several dozen localities. In one sector of this front our troops broke the'■enemy resistance and crossed the Dnieper River and occupied several key positions. ' “In the area of Chuguyev (on the Donetz River 25 miles south-east of Kharkov) six enemy counter-attacks were repelled and two battalions were routed and 19 tanks and 90 lorries destroyed or damaged. “To the south of Lake Ilmen, where the offensive was continued, the Russians crossed a river and occupied 10 strongly-fortified localities.”
