ELECTRIC POWER
MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD INCREASE IN REVENUE. POLICY OF CONSERVATION. (“Times-Age” Special.) At today’s meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board at Carterton the Secretary-Manager, Mr George Brown reported that last month net revenue at £6,509 represented a gain of £795 on the revenue for February, 1942, and a gain of £596 on the estimate. For the first eleven months of the board s financial year, April-February, the revenue, at £70,210 showed a gain of £4,370 on the previous year’s figure and represented a gain of £3,382 on the estimate. “The present economic conditions — shortage of labour, shortage of supplies, shortage of power, and the high cost of supplies—all indicate that in the meantime new work should be reduced to a minimum,” said Mr Brown. “As a result of such a policy existing stocks would be conserved to meet any emergency which may arise, and would in any case be available for post-war work. Also, it should be possible, under such conditions, to accumulate funds to meet the heavy demands for reconstruction and minor extensions which are accumulating and will further accumulate during the war period.”
