CARTERTON
BOWLING PRAGNELL CUP MATCH. ("Times-Age” Special.) W. Higgison, of the Greytown Club, met W. Sorensen (holder) in a contest for the Pragnell Cup last evening, the latter winning by 20 to 18. At the week-end a Palmerston North rink will play a game against a Carterton rink on the local green. RED CROSS SOCIETY SUB-CENTRE MEETING. The annual meeting of the Carterton Sub-centre of the Carterton Red Cross Society last evening was presided over by Mrs L. J. Loftus. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, Mrs L. J. Loftus; vice-presidents, Mrs Every, Mrs Cole, and Mr and Mrs D. L. Taverner; committee, Mesdames E. T. Beaven, W. C. Deller, J. Fisher, P. Hodder, A. F. Stubbs, W. Sorensen and 'J. Udy; secretary and treasurer, Miss C. Berrill. It was decided to make an effort to augment the funds of the branch in the coming year. A Prisoner of War Committee was elected and it is hoped to obtain a room in the town where advice and assistance can be given to parents or relatives of prisoners of war, and also where gifts of suitable articles may be left. The Junior Red Cross branch at Dalefield was congratulated on their effort in raising funds for the children’s ward in the Masterton and Greytown hospitals at Christmas time; also visiting and entertaining the women inmates in the Buchanan Home, Greytown. The transport section was congratulated on their work. Sixty-three members had been examined in various sections. A vote of thanks was passed to the lecturers and others who gave valuable service to the society. Successful Concert and Dance. The concert given in the State Theatre last evening .was greeted with a full house and the programme of vocal and other items by the Convent pupils and the Papawai Maori Party was greatly appreciated. A dance was held at the conclusion of the concert, the music for which was supplied by Mr Tom Udy’s Orchestra. Messrs H. Dud-' son and S. Dwane were the M’s.C. Card Party. The weekly card tournament held by the Boy Scout Committee last evening was well attended. The prize-win-ners were: —Ladies: Mrs W. Miller, 1; Mrs O’Halloran, 2. Men’s section: Mr Morris, 1; Mrs A. Thompson, 2. Band Picnic. Members of the Carterton Municipal Band and supporters will hold a picnic on Mr Jas. Callister’s property, Swamp Road, Carterton, on Sunday next. REGENT THEATRE DOUBLE FEATURE. Tonight’s programme will be headed by “Cheers for Miss Bishop” (an outstanding drama), and “Four Jacks and a Jill,” a particularly good picture featuring Ray Bolger and Anne Shirley.
