Mrs A. Caselberg, Sussex Street, Masterton, is visiting Rotorua. Mrs W. G. Lamb, Herbert Street, Masterton, has returned from a short visit to Wellington. Mr A. S. Martin, a member of the Wairarapa Hospital Board, is a patient in the Masterton Hospital. The death occurred at Picton on Saturday of Mr William Ryan, brother of Mrs Beech, of Pahiatua, at the age of 74 years. Advice has been received by Mrs C. J. Williams, Masterton, that Major C. J. Williams has been promoted to the rank of Lt.-Colonel as from December 4. The Borough Sanitary inspector, Mr T. A. Russell, was congratulated at last night’s meeting of the Masterton Borough Council on his recent election as a vice-president of the New Zealand branch of the Royal Sanitary Institute. Mr Lloyd Powell, English pianist and composer, will visit New Zealand this year to conduct the practical examinations in pianoforte playing for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, England. Mr Powell officiated in a similar capacity in New Zealand in 1936 and 1941. Mrs Jane Boyle, of Waipawa, celebrated her 100th birthday today. She enjoys exceptionally good health, is able to read without the use of glasses and walks to church every Sunday. Her mental faculties are akin to those of a person of 50 years of age.
