ALFREDTON

PATRIOTIC SOCIETY EUCHRE PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) A very successful euchre party conducted by the Patriotic Society was held in the local hall. The winners at cards were: Ladies, Mrs Low; men, Mr W. Rolls. A dinner donated 'by Mrs T. Smith for competition realised £2 4s 6d and was won by Mrs Algie. A spinning wheel donated by Mrs Stone-Wigg realised £1 15s and was won by Elsie Edmonds. Vegetables grown and sold by the local school children brought £1 ss. Donations were received from Mr G. Napier £1 and Mr F. Johnson Is 3d. The following goods were donated and auctioned: Vegetables from Charlie .Leach realised £1 2s lid, onions, Mr G. Godinagh, 7s 6d; cabcages, Mrs Kenning, 5s 3d; plums, Mrs Hurford, 2s 6d; beans. Mrs S. Edmonds, 3s 7d. Two packets of cards were given by Mr G. Godinagh and R. Seymour. The Patriotic Committee wish to thank the following for knitting for the forces: Mesdames Algie, L. Algie, E. I. McLean, Low, Mr John Hull. Personal Items. Mrs Watson, of Dannevirke, is visiting her sister, Mrs V. Payne. Mr B. Galbraith is spending ‘a holiday at Napier. Mesdames Algie and Low are visiting Napier. Miss W. Smith, of Wellington, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs T. Smith. Mr and Mrs S. Smith are spending a few days at Castlepoint.
