MARINE CORPS VERSUS OPAKI YESTERDAY’S MATCH. NOTABLE VISITING MARKSMEN. A shooting match held on the Opaki range yesterday between teams representing the United States Marine Corps and the Opaki Rifle Club was won by the latter by 947 points to 904. Among the visitors were two notable riflemen, Lieutenant W. A. Easterling and Marine Gunner S. Disco. The formor has won the following national championships: President s Match, Leech Cup and General Pershing Trophy (national team match, highest individual). He was for eight years a member of the Marine Corps Rifle team. Lieutenant Easterling has to his credit 60 consecutive bull's eyes at 600 yards. In the Corps he ranks as a distinguished rifle and pistol shot. Marine Gunner S. Disco won the Asiatic Division Match in 1934 and was on one occasion the winner of the Ml match (a national championship). In yesterday’s match he gained the highest score of the meeting, and was complimented by the president of the Opaki Club. Mr H. H. Mawley, on his fine achievement. The only rifleman to gain a possible at any of the ranges was Staff Sergeant Paul P. Gal. An invitation to members of the U. Marine Corps to make full use of the range was extended by Mr Mawley. A most enjoyable afternoon tea was provided by the wives' of Opaki Rifle Club members. Following are the scores (possible Tos):— U.S. Marine Corps: Marine Gunner S. Disco, 101; Lieutenant W. E. Hemmingway, 96; Staff Sergeant Paul P. Gal. 95; Technical Sergeant J. C. Perry, 94; Lieutenant W. A. Easterling, 91; PFC R. T. Ellis, 88; M. A. Moore, 85; Lieutenant J. D. Gay, 85; Lieutenant Robert. L. Scott,- 85; Thurman H. Trosper, 84; total, 904. Opaki Rifle Club: C. Pickering, 98; R. V. Mason. 98; G. Vennell. 96; H. Mawley, 96; W. N. Kummer, 96; V. E. Donald, 94; J. Bouzaid, 94; E. M. Wrigley, 93; C. A. Whiteman, 91; D. P. Donald, 91; total, 947.
