HARVEST FESTIVAL

SERVICES IN MASTERTON CHURCHES. Large congregations were present at the Knox Church, Masterton, yesterday when the annual harvest festival services were held. The church was tastefully decorated and there was a splendid lot of produce. A special musical programme was sung by the choir. The preacher at the morning service was the Rev W. J. Couling and in the evening the Rev J. E. Lopdell. The produce will be sent to the Methodist orphanages in Wellington. There was a large congregation at the Kuripimi Methodist Church, Masterton, last night when the annual harvest festival service was held. The church was suitably decorated for the occasion and there was a fine display of produce. A feature of the service was the splendid singing by the choir under the leadership of Mr Mannell. An appropriate sermon was ably preached by Mr F. H. Parker. Tonight the produce will be sold and a concert programme will be presented. Both morning and evening services at the Masterton Baptist Church yesterday were largely attended when the annual harvest festival was held. There was a bountiful array of produce and the church was artistically decorated with sheaves of wheat and barley. Over the Communion table the words “give thanks” were formed in .an arch of flowers. The Rev James Cumming was the preacher. At the morning service he spoke on “Practical Thanksgiving” and in the, evening he took as his text, “Sowing'and Reaping.”
