EXPANDING FINANCIAL NEEDS. ’ IN SOUTH-WEST AND SOUTH PACIFIC. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The American Red Cross needs for the year in the South-West and South Pacific theatres of war will probably exceed 3,000,000 dollars (£935,700), though expenditure was originally estimated at half a million dollars, said Mr Charles K. Gamble, Commissioner for the organisation in these areas, who has returned to Sydney after five months’ absence in America. The American Red Cross personnel when he left numbered about 75 in these areas. Now it is 225, and it will reach 500 by the end of the year.
