Pilot Officer lan C. Bennington, R.N.Z-A.F. (Bomber Squadron) is at present on a visit to Masterton. The death occurred at Konini on Wednesday of Mr William Lawrence McDowell, a well-known resident. Today the Governor-General and Lady Newall left Wellington for New Plymouth, where his Excellency will open the Taranaki Agricultural Society’s annual show. Their Excellencies will return to Wellington on Sunday afternoon. The death has occurred of Mr Ebenezer Hay, of Annandale, Pigeon Bay, at the age of 67, reports a Press Association telegram from Christchurch. A well-known runholder and sportsman, he was a past president of the. Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, vice-president of the Canterbury Sheepfarmers’ Union, and a member of the Royal Agricultural Society. He was a director of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association, and the New Zealand Refrigerating Company.
