TE ORE ORE

MRS K. TE TAU HONOURED SPLENDID COMMUNITY SERVICE. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large and representative gathering at the Te Ore Ore Meeting House last night, -when opportunity was taken by those present to make a presentation to Mrs K. Te Tau prior to her leaving for camp. Mrs Te Tau, who has a splendid record of community service to her credit, was president of the Wairarapa Maori Women’s War Service Auxiliary, a leader in the Red Cross Transport organisation, and was secretary of the Wairarapa Maori War Effort Committee. The latter position, which Mrs Te Tau held before resigning to enter the Army, was unusual in that there are only three women secretaries in New Zealand. One of the secretaries is a cousin to Mrs Te Tau, and resides in Dunedin. Mr Pera Morris, in making a presentation to Mrs Te Tau, spoke of the high esteem in which she was held in the community. He referred to the splendid work she had carried out in connection with the patriotic efforts, and said that she was a tireless worker in any activity which was for the benefit of the native race. Mrs Te Tau suitably acknowledged the gift and the sentiments expressed by Mr Morris. Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Mrs Anaru’s orchestra. Mr Guy Pura was M.C. Supper was provided by ladies on the Tribal Committee. Mr Morris sang two songs, and items were given, by children present. Mrs Te Tau had driven the children to school for the past eight months. Mrs Te Tau will leave for camp on Tuesday.
