SECONDARY SCHOOL SWIMMING SPORTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Secondary Department <of the Eketahuna District High School held their swimming sports yesterday afternoon, in the presence of many parents and friends. The results were as follow: — Girls’ events: 25yds crawl, M. Caseldine 1, C. Davie 2, B. Davie 3. 25yds breaststroke, C. Davie 1, B. Davie 2, M. Carseldine 3. 25yds side stroke, M. Caseldine 1, C. Davie 2, H. Ramsay 3; 25yds back stroke, C. Davie 1, M. Carseldine 2; plunge, C. Davie (37ft Ilin) 1, M. Carseldine 2, H. Ratnsay 3. Champion, Cora Davie; Tunnbr-up, Mae Carseldine. Boys’ competitions: 10yds crawl, G. ~ Waterreus 1; 25yds crawl, P. 1, R. Connor 2, G. Waterreus 3; 50yds crawl, G. Waterreus 1, P. Stewart 2; 25yds breaststroke, P. Stewart 1, J. Dawson 2; plunge, R. The proceeds bf a silver coin collection were handed to the Swimming Club. OBITUARY MR GEORGE JESSON There died at the Lower Hutt recently, an bld and Very’highly respected resident of Eketahuna, Mr George Jesson, who had been in business as a watchmaker and jeweller in Eketahuna for 36 years. Though of a retiring nature, Mr Jesson took a keen ■interest' in many ‘local 'institutions. He was a valued member Of St ‘Cuthbert’s Vestry for many years. He was a member of „ the Eketahuna „ Fire Brigade for 32 years, being secretary ‘for 20 years and treasurer 'for -12 years. After 25 years’ service he was '.publicly presented with the Gold Star, to which three gold bars had since been added. Mr Jesson was the chief judge and timekeeper for the Athletic ‘Club and also had been official timekeeper for the Swimming Club since ‘its inception. For many years he was -on the school committee, giving very practical assistance in making tennis -nets. He was instructor in making ‘camouflage nets until recently. Mr Jesson’s life had been an example of service to others. Mrs Jesson was a former active member of the Croquet Club and Ladies’ Auxiliary of St Cuthbert’s Church and was ‘a Rod Cross worker. To Mrs Jesson 'and Messrs Alan -and Vai Jesson, the sympathy of -a wide circle of friends will be extended. A daughter, Mrs Hugh Askew, prede- f ceased her father. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs D. R. Salter paid a short visit to Eketahuna recently. Mr Salter has been transferred from a military camp to a position as educa- s tion officer at an Air Force training ' centre in the South Island. Mr Salter was formerly a secondary ‘assistant $t i the Eketahuna District High School.
