DEATH OF SPEAKER
SOME POSSIBLE SUCCESSORS IN. BRITAIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, March 4. The political correspondent of the “Daily Express” says that as the Deputy Speaker loses his power because of the death of the Speaker, the House of Commons will meet next under the Clerk. The Foreign Secretary, Mr Eden, or another, will announce the King’s wish that a new Speaker be appointed, whereupon two members will propose and second the election of a certain member’ who, protesting his unworthiness, will be “dragged” to the chair. The present Deputy Speaker, Colonel Clifton Brown, is favoured. Others in the running are Major Gwilym Lloyd George and Mr W. S. Morrison.
