“JOHN BULL” CALLING
DISTRICT PATRIOTIC APPEAL. SACRIFICES OF FIGHTING MEN. “John Bull” has been asked once again to enlist your sympathies and obtain your subscriptions for our boys and girls who are fighting overseas, says a statement by the District Patriotic Appeal Committee, but before the campaign starts “John Bull” would like to offer his sympathy to the loved ones of those who have given their lives that we may live here in comfort and security. Before considering what we can give or should give let us all for one minute think of the sacrifices these men have made for us. “They went with songs to the battle, they were young, straight of eye, steady and aglow, They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted; They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn; At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We. will remember them.” a
