PATRIOTIC APPEAL
MEETING OF LOCAL COMMITTEE. The first meeting of the Local Patriotic Appeal Committee was held last night. There were present: Messrs J. A. Betts (who was ’unanimously reelected chairman), A. P. Bennett (“John Bull”), secretary; E.M. Hodder, J .Mackley, A. D. Low. A. E. Cretney, R. H. Williams, G. T. O’Hara Smith and H. H. Daniell. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Fagan and Jameson. Before commencing the business of the meeting, Mr Betts spoke briefly of those men who had made the supreme sacrifice since the last campaign appeal was completed. On the request of Mr Betts, members stood while a motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the fallen men. It was decided that the appeal should be on the same lines as last year, and that it should commence on March 6. Reports received from Castlepoint and Mauriceville showed that arrangements were well under way, and that both these areas hoped to complete their work within the week.
