OVER TAXATION METHODS IN AUSTRALIA OPPOSITION AMENDMENT TO BILL. LIKELY TO BE DEFEATED. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.45 p.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. An Opposition amendment; to secure the redrafting of the Income Tax Assessment Bill, is not acceptable to the Government. Opposition criticism of the Bill in its present form is based less on the amount of taxation than on the method of its collection. A motion by the Opposition Leader, Mr Fadden, seeks the establishment of an expert committee to investigate the workings of the Bill. Mr Fadden also advocated the collection of portion of the money needed in the form of compulsory loans. It is understood that the Government has the support of three Independent members on the Taxation Bill, so that the defeat of the amendment is expected.
