SERVICE CLUB

ROOMS LARGELY PATRONISED. DANCE & OTHER ARRANGEMENTS The American Red Cross Service Club, in Queen Street, Masterton, is being largely patronised by service members of the Allied Nations, including New Zealanders. An enjoyable dance was held in the club on Tuesday night. The dance arrangements are in the hands of a committee of women headed by Miss Kirsty Cameron and includes the following members of the Marine Corps: Sergeants Bill Slaughter, W. Moore, “Gabby” Magner, R. Holman, Corporal Bob Perkinson, Private First Class Robert Moroni and Charles Saewent and “Russ” Brainard. After 8 p.m. on weekdays and at any hour on Sundays men may bring womenfolk to the club but on account iff food rationing the canteen will be open only for the men. No civilians will be served at the canteen except on dance nights—Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday—when coffee and doughnuts will be served after 9.30 p.m. for supper. Extra dance hostesses will be drawn from the list made up from canteen workers and their names will be taken' in rotation. ' Voluntary workers are still required for the 12 to 2 p.m. shift and the 2 to 5 p.m. shift. The Marine Band will play at the club on Friday night. All the club’s dances are of an informal nature. The club director, Mrs Betty Learmont, states that the club would appreciate the loan or gift of modern records of dance tunes.
