SCHOOL PICNIC SPORTS AT PARKVALE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual picnic of the Parkvale School was held at the school grounds on Saturday last. The day was fine, and there was a large attendance of parents and friends, and a most enjoyable time was spent. The following were the results of the principal sports events: — Senior girls: A. Booth 1 ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS LOYAL HEART OF OAK LODGE., The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge of Odd Fellows (Manchester Unity) was held last night and presided over by Bro. J. A. Stevens, N.G. Sick pay totalling £lO 10s was ordered to be paid. The delegate to the District Conference to be held at Wellington on Saturday afternoon next, Bro. C. J. DeLacey, P.D.G.M., was given a free hand. One candidate was initiated into the Order and given a welcome. Bowling. Two games of interest were played on the Carterton bowling green last evening, when the club’s singles were advanced to the semi-final stage and the champion pairs final was played. The results were as follow: —Champion singles: Hughan beat Riggs, 17/12. Champion pairs: McCarty and Daysh (s) beat Pankhurst and Barr (s), 19/16. Six members of the Carterton Ladies’ Bowling Club will play a game against Island Bay at Wellington on Thursday. Earthquake. A sharp earthquake shock was felt in Carterton last evening at 7.42 o’clock. Vital Statistics. There were 7 births, one marriage and 5 deaths in Carterton last month. Personal. Mrs E. Poole, who has been staying with her sister, Mrs F. Sewell, Belvedere Street, Carterton, returned to Pahiatua today. The funeral of the late Miss Judith Nairene McKenzie took place yesterday at the Clareville Cemetery. The Rev. W. J. Couling conducted the services at the home and at the graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs K. H. Reid, A. E. Reid, H. D. Reid, E. McKenzie (uncles of deceased), H. Abbott and Leading Aircraftman B. T. Cane. Many beautiful wreaths were forwarded, including one from the Carterton District High School and the Home and Schools’ Association. Among others, a letter of sympathy was received from the Wellington Education Board, of which Mr H. J. McKenzie is a member. The engagement is announced of Ngaire Effie, second daughter of Mr and Mrs R. P. Williams, Parkvale, to Harry Sidney, only son of Mr and Mrs N. S. Cadwallader, Waihakeke. Demolition Work. Messrs W. Rigg, Ltd., Masterton, this morning made a start with the demolition of the top frontage of Hannah’s boot shop. Plunket Society. The monthly meeting was held yesterday, there being present: Mesdames Wells, Udy, Candy, Armstrong, Dyer, Robinson, Montgomery and Trapp Mesdames H. E. Jackson and E. Jones also attended for the purpose of making arrangements for the garden party in aid of the Sir Truby and Lady King Karitane Home. The nurses’s report for February was:—New cases: Mothers, 5; babies, 5. Visits to homes: New cases, 9; old cases, 71; pre-school children, 24. Visits to rooms: Adults, 87; babies, 71; preschool children, 21. Arrangements were made both for the garden party and the house to house canvass and shop day. REGENT THEATRE “MAYTIME.” The spectacular musical comedy. “Maytime,” will be shown tonight. It is considered to be better than “Naughty Marietta” or “Rose Marie,” and stars Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy.
