Drowned in Lake. Max Alexander', aged 28, Lakeside, was drowned, and Michael Sheehan, of Southbridge, was dragged ashore in an exhausted condition, when a rowing boat capsized on Lake Ellesmere yesterday. 1 Infantile Paralysis. Three cases of infantile paralysis were reported to the Health Department at Christchurch yesterday. All are infants, two of two years and one of three. These are the first cases for some days, and the number yesterday was the same as that for all last week. Clothing Coupons. Under current conditions “M” and “O” clothing coupons will be available till May 31, according to the answer to an inquriy made at the office of the Rationing Controller yesterday. Clothing coupons in the new books will not become available till after that date. Special cards, including those for children’s clothing, are available at any time. New Zealand Troops Visited. The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, announced last night that the Minister of Defence Co-ordination, Mr Coates, the Permanent Head of the Prime Minister’s Department, Mr C. A. Berendsen, the Deputy-Chief of the General Staff, Brigadier K. L. Stewart, and Colonel Salmon, Deputy-Quartermaster-Gen-eral, had returned to New Zealand after consulting with the American authorities in the South Pacific area. Opportunity was also taken to visit New Zealand troops stationed in the Pacific. Sport on Sunday. The provision of Sunday sport for visiting servicemen had been discussed with representatives of the churches, said the mayor, Mr Hislop, at a meeting of the finance committee of the Wellington City Council yesterday. Those representatives had expressed the opinion that there should be no charge and no advertising to divert people from their normal Sunday observance. Permission for a baseball game had been granted on condition that there be no advertising and no charge. A Bogus Airman. The story of how a young man, Angus Donoghue, broke into the Air Training Corps depot and stole uniforms, one of which he wore, posing as a member of the R.N.Z.A.F., was told in the Magistrate’s Court, Dunedin, yesterday. It was stated that on one occasion accused took uniforms valued at £l6 and 27s 6d in cash. On the second occasion he took clothing and £7 16s in money. He was arrested wearing the uniform of a corporal of the Air Force.i Pleading guilty, Donoghue was committed for sentence. A police officer stated he was a member of the correspondence section of the Air Training Corps. Potato Prices. A Price Order was issued yesterday by the Price Tribunal governing the sale of both North Island and South Island main crop potatoes for the period March to June inclusive. A further period from July to November inclusive will be covered in subsequent amendments to this Order. The Order provides for the grower receiving the following scale of prices in respect of potatoes of f.a.q. quality: —For potatoes grown in the ; South Island and sold for delivery in the following months, the actual price (first grdde) and maximum price (under grade) will be: March, £8 a ton f.0.b., s.i.; April, £7 ss; £7 15s; June, £7 15s. A premium of 10s a ton can be charged in respect of Sutton Supreme and King Edward potatoes. For potatoes grown in the North Island: March, £lO 10s a ton, f.0.b., s.i., at grower’s station; April, £9 15s; May, £lO ss; June, £lO ss. Growers may also make an extra charge of up to 10s a ton in respect of North Island-grown “tagged” potatoes, which are graded according to special standards, ensuring superior quality.
