OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
“DIFFERENT IN QUEEN ST.” (To the Editor) Sir,—Would it be too much to ask the cost of putting a road through from the northern approach to Chapel Street and from Chapel Street to High Street; also similar figures for each end of Dixon Street? Would it be possible to have the percentage of traffic on ordinary days which turns across the stock route to Villa Street thereby taking very much traffic off Queen Street. It is to be assumed that this data would be in the possession of the Borough Council before considering the very large schemes now proposed. Reading Mr Mabson’s scheme' through, it seems that his primary object is to provide more parking space in Queen Street. If parking were made on the angle it would mean that no more traffic lanes would be available . but that ten more cars could park between the Post Office and Perry Street which may or may not be a good return for £lO,OOO. Personally I have the greatest objection to seeing the same car parked day after day in front of my office in spite of traffic rules but' I suppose it would be different in Queen Street. —I am, etc., RATEPAYER.
